Last year I made a sewing machine cover that was really cool, but then I went ahead & sold it. Paying the bills always wins. You know, I don't need anything. No need to ever do anything nice for myself, right? Well, I felt like the old machine could definitely use a cover, so I finally made myself another one. This one I'll keep. And guess what?!! I made a tutorial to share with y'all. So you can make one of your own. Okay here we go...You need to measure your machine. First, measure how long you need the cover to be. So take a measurement from the bottom front to the bottom back of the machine. Mine measured 25 inches.
Then take a measurement of the width of your machine. It was hard for me to take this photo. I really needed both of my hands for measuring. Anyway, it ended up being 15 inches.
Next you cut various fabrics in various widths . Add half an inch to your length measurement & make sure that they are at least that long.
Then sew them together & make sure that they are at least your width length plus half an inch.
Okay, so you're going to add a half inch onto both your measurements & this is what size you want your pieced fabric to be. In my case it was 25.5 x 15.5 inches. So cut it down to be that size.
You are also going to need a piece of backing fabric in the same size. Go ahead & cut that now. You'll also need four pieces of ribbon each 10 inches long.
With your top piece laying right side up, pin your ribbon about 5 inches from the corner like this:
Do that four times, like shown below:
Next, place your backing fabric wrong side up on top of the top piece & pin around the edges. It really doesn't look like it, but I promise that fabric is wrong side up in the photo below. Take it to the sewing machine & sew around all of the edges, leaving a 4 inch opening on the back short end.
Remove the pins. Trim the corners & flip it right side out.
Iron around the edges & tuck the open end in. Pin the opening together & top stitch all the way around close to the edge of the fabric.
And there you have it, a pretty cover for your trusty machine to keep the dust & stuff out.

My mom totally had those pink flowered sheets--probably still does:) I saw them and laughed thinking that I would probably go to her house and find them on her bed and YOU are using them as VINTAGE. Gotta love the generation of Non-Thrower-Awayers:)

I did mine in one go, with quilt as you go technique: Cut backing and batting to size plus an inch all round. Place backing wrong side up (if you really need backing - no-one sees the inside!) then batting. Place your first strip of fabric face up on the edge, and the next strip face down, lining up inner edges. Then simply sew (small stitch) and flip, press, and repeat as many times as you need to cover your backing. Trim to size and bind edges with bias binding. The end result will be smoother and firmer than the turned-inside-out method.
I did mine is well (a little bit different). Please come to have a look and please let me know what is your though.

Thanks for this tutorial! I made my sewing machine cover today. I found a great sewing-themed fabric at Hobby Lobby so I only used one fabric instead of patchwork. I also added a topstitch around the edge after I turned the fabric to help the front and lining lay flat.
